Notes

Blacklight 6 Impending Release

  • J. Coyne, Chris Beer, and others have working on Blacklight (BL) 6 for a long time
  • Several prereleases are already out
  • Now, the community is about to release final product
  • An invitation to review outstanding Pull Requests has been issued
  • The Gems needed to support BL 6 are in the process of being updated
    • The exception lies with Hydra Collections
    • Version 6 for hydra-collections (which supports the PCDM) was already released
    • A new version of hydra-collections would be a minor version (pretty big changes would still be involved, and hence would be serve as a "substantial minor version")
  • How precisely are these PR's best reviewed?
    • Visual code review
    • Ensure that all tests are passing
    • Ensure that the code base is documented as needed
  • Is this to be integrated with Sufia 7?
    • Yes.  J. Coyne is currently preparing to work with CurationConcerns in integrating Blacklight 6
    • Once this has been finished, integration with Sufia 7 hopefully shouldn't require many changes
  • Major Change for Setting Search Filters
    • For BL 5 versions, search filters could be set at the Controller or Filters themselves
    • For BL 6, this has been restricted to the Filter alone
  • Shall the merging of these pull requests update the version of hydra-head to 10 or 9.10?
    • This shall likely be 10, forcing one to upgrade
    • It should be clarified that Sufia 7 release has not yet been released
    • Hence, support for Blacklight 6 (and, thus, hydra-head 10) will likely be featured in the initial Sufia 7 release
