Began development in 2018; moved to Samvera Labs, community sprint in 2020
Goals: Avalon team looking for alternative to current MediaElement-based player, moving to Video.js; having a player that could be used by others in the community, not just those using Avalon

Avalon 7 (non-Hyrax) has IIIF Presentation 3.0 manifest endpoint and uses IIIF for integration with the Audio Timeliner, but doesn’t use IIIF player internally for the Avalon player
Avalon on Hyrax plans to always use IIIF for media playback
1.1 Release (May 2021) - code is in Samvera Labs (https://github.com/samvera-labs/iiif-react-media-player), also under Samvera namespace in NPM (https://www.npmjs.com/package/@samvera/iiif-react-media-player )
Demo:  

1. Support for transcripts, both time-synced (via IIIF annotations) and documents, e.g. text or MS Word
   Table of contents-based structural navigation (using IIIF ranges)
   Using IIIF manifesto gem to parse IIIF manifest
   1.2 release coming out soon, adding hotkey support, transcripts, CSS bundling fix (all currently in main branch)
   Next steps: add transcript component to Avalon 7.3; more features (playlists, embedability, further transcript work); getting feedback from early adopters; branding work; potential support for use outside of IIIF context
   Questions:
   Why use this in place of UV? Lighter weight, more flexibility of UI, greater control over UX. UV UI is not ideal for AV users
   Have the Avalon folks added any metadata beyond label to the structured navigation? Something akin to the segment descriptions from OHMS? not yet

         1. Current workshop proposals are intro to Samvera Community, Intro to Valkyrie

         2. CFP for workshops and presentations closes at 8 PM Mon 9/13, proposals for lightning talks and posters due by 9/30

         3. Expect registration to open next week

      3. Call for Helpers

         1. Call is still open through 9/17. Good number of responses, but could still use more.

      4. 1. Pledges due by 15 Dec 2021. Currently at 10% with one institution’s pledge
            
            

3. Call for agenda items  

   1. Currently two days scheduled (Oct. 12-13), may reduce to one day depending on length of agenda

4. Roadmaps Alignment Group – Code Reclamation Efforts (@Nabeela Jaffer )

   1. Starting with two features: Globus, DOI

   2. Have contacted institutions that have implemented these features locally to see if they can submit a pull request to Hyrax core or work with another institution to do so

   3. If you have worked on these features and haven’t been contacted, please contact Heather or Nabeela

   4. Question: Can effort devoted to code reclamation be counted toward pledge drive hours? Yes
      
      

5. Julie Allinson Memorial Award

   1. Propose a small WG to write the purpose, criteria, nomination process, award process (1 or 2 meetings before Connect)

   2. OASIS can collect funding for the award fund, starting with Connect 2021

      1. Contribution button on our website for individual contributions; can also provide an invoice

      2. Not tax-deductible

   3. Suggest a small award ($200 and a plaque) given at Connect beginning in 2022
