Notes
Hyrax on Wings Update
- Initial four organized sprints planned for the Hyrax/Valkyrie work are over (finished around July 4th)
- Status of the work is that the Wings adapter is largely done
- Continuing work to migrate Valkyrie code into Hyrax piecemeal
- UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara are doing organized work within the Slack #hyrax Channel
- Mostly onboarding participants in the Hyrax on Wings work on Monday
- Who is on the group?
- UC Santa Barbara
- Tom Johnson
- UC San Diego
- Vivien Chu
- Wawei
- Longshou
- Matt Critchlow
- UC Santa Barbara
Hyrax Product Owner
- Steve Van Tuyl has left the Samvera Community
- Is no longer serving as the Hyrax Product Owner
- There are efforts to replace this role in the community
- Avalon and Hyrax community members are doing their best
- If there are any interested members of the community who wish to serve as the Product Owner, you are encouraged to volunteer
- Best channel for future discussions would be through the Slack #sigahr Channel
- This channel will be where the process for inviting a new Product Owner is undertaken
- Maybe someone in SIGAHR will act as the interim Product Owner for the Roadmap Council
Hyrax::Operation
- Tom has been looking for opportunities to simplify one area of the Hyrax code base
- The Hyrax::Operation Class provides an interface for tracking interconnecting ActiveJob Jobs
- This is primarily used in supporting batch operations
- There shouldn't be this large Operation interface which is generally not used
- Deprecation plan would be to deprecate this now with the hopes of refactoring for a 4.0.0 release
- All attendees supported this
Second Reminder for Solrizer Deprecation
- Components Maintenance WG wants to ensure that all are aware that Solrizer is going to be deprecated
- Hyrax-on-Wings effectively removed this dependency for Hyrax
iiif-manifest Gem Promotion from samvera-labs
- Gem has been in use for a few years by Hyrax, Avalon, Spotlight, and Figgy
- There has been a call for a 1.0 release and promotion
- Chris Colvard issued the call for a Product Owner
- Adam Wead volunteered to serve as the Product Owner
- Other requirements for a core component would need to be met
- Perhaps these could be addressed in the upcoming Core Components Maintenance WG Sprint
- DCE was working with this Gem on a project
- There were some questions regarding enhancing the performance for Works with many child objects
- Needs some sort of caching for large manifests (but, this should not block it from being promoted - perhaps this could be scoped for a 2.0 release?)
