Parking Lot
hi everyone. i was reviewing this agenda as i prepare my travel arrangements, and was distressed to see the framing of equity issues under Community technology leadership reimbursement model.
as most of you know, it’s my dear wish for Samvera to make a real commitment to undoing the misogyny that structures how digital library projects prioritize work and value contributors. as mentioned elsewhere in our agenda, technical contributors are few. many of the most prolific are women. careless generalization contributes to the devaluation of their labor. more personally, the number of people identified by the phrase “tech lead (traditionally male)” is three. my own tenure in this role was unpaid and thankless enough that i seriously considered leaving my long career in libraries. i’ll plan to leave the room for this portion of the agenda, not being prepared to hear those years of my life discussed as part of a male tradition.
i’m looking forward to seeing you all. it’s been too long.
