DigitalGeorgetown: Migrating to Multiple Hyku Tenants

Georgetown University has implemented Hyku 5.1.0/Bulkrax 5.4.1 for DigitalGeorgetown. We use the platform to manage our institutional submissions, digital projects, and archival collections. We are utilizing the multi-tenant option, having one tenant for all main campus, medical, and bioethics library material, and another for Law Library material. Over the past six months we migrated 30,000 works (everything from the main campus, medical, and bioethics libraries) from our old platform, DSpace, which was run since 2011. Migrating from a legacy platform presented challenges, but also opportunities. Through this process we worked to clean up and restructure metadata, remove metadata-only objects, and reorganize our collections in a way that is more logical for digital platforms. The new platform has made DigitalGeorgetown more accessible and responsive, and front end customization and tweaks have helped us to meet the University’s accessibility standard. As of April, our migration is not yet complete, we will begin migrating the Law Library works soon. In our presentation we will introduce DigitalGeorgetown and discuss some of the challenges and solutions we arrived at, as well as what we hope to see in the future.

Getting to Full Open Access: Integrating Dimensions into Hyrax

In 2016, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Faculty Council passed the Open Access Policy, which facilitates free, public access to research authored at the University. The Carolina Digital Repository (CDR) is a Hyrax-based institutional repository whose mission supports the Open Access Policy. CDR staff have engaged in multiple projects to collect and provide access to open content, which has been challenging given the University’s lack of access to automated solutions such as a faculty activity tracker. In this presentation, we will discuss the CDR’s integration with Dimensions, a large-scale research system, which has enabled us to import over 50,000 works to CDR. We will describe the projects, the workflow and our results. We will reflect on the successes and challenges of the project and evaluate future directions, including our plan to integrate federal research sources.

Participation Breakout: An Open Source Therapy Session and Reference Desk

I am interested in fostering some discussion about participating in open source work: why folks are interested, barriers to participating, and what their institutions expect from being part of the Samvera Community. I would also be interested in pointing folks to information about participating in development and testing, documentation, and how interest groups and working groups fit into all of this in our community. Kind of like an Open Source Therapy Session and Reference Desk.
