major release process

For major releases, Release Managers please rely on the list for help with nailing down the details.

1. Release Managers of involved components work together to define release plan
2. Release Managers put out release plan, announce that Release Candidates are ready for review & Circulate Draft of Release Notes
3. Release Managers notify Web Site Owner with availability of the RC and details; this should go up as a news item
4. Allow 2-3 weeks for review & feedback (ie. Wait until Partner Meeting in March)
5. Website owner & Documentation managers prep updates
6. Given that there are no objections: release goes out, documentation updated, emails sent & news posted

When Reviewing Release Candidates

• Rely primarily on active developers of current components for review
• Strongly encourage less-active participants to try RCs and express concerns
• Invite new adopters to do a fresh install of RCs
