Delivering Avalon Content Through a Learning Management System (LMS)
This documentation is for Release 3.1. The feature was introduced in version 3. For the 3.0.0 version of this page, see v.5.
Delivering Avalon Content through a Learning Management System (LMS)
Avalon LTI support has been tested with the following LMS systems: Blackboard, Canvas and Sakai. With LTI integration Avalon can provide course-specific content to verified LMS users. To do so first requires technical set-up of Avalon’s LTI tool within an LMS by the LMS administrator. Then items can be made accessible to the course. For this you will need to ask the LMS administrator how to obtain a course id.
Managers and Editors can assign access to a specific item using the course id. Here is how to provide course-specific access to an item:
- Log in to Avalon
- Select “Manage Content” to access the “My Collections” page.
- Select the collection that contains the item
- Select “item”
- Select “edit”
- On the “Access Control” page add the course’s course id to the “External Group” field to provide access to the item. (In version 3.0, this field was labelled "Class".)
- Log out of Avalon and log in to your LMS to access your course.
- In the course open the Avalon tool from the menu. (Note: If you do not see the Avalon tool when you are logged in to the course, please check with your LMS administrator to check the tool’s configuration.)
- The item will be listed on the page.
Providing course-specific access to a collection:
- Select “Manage Content” to access the “My Collections” page.
- Select the collection that contains the item
- On the “Access Control” page add the course’s context id to the “External Group” field to provide access to the item. (In version 3.0, this field was labelled "Class".)
- New items added to the collection will be available to the class.
- Items that existed previously in the collection will need to be individually assigned.
