Agenda/Notes
Avalon user survey
Updated the list of implementers on the website - Implementers
No new implementers; removed 3 institutions that migrated to other platforms
Update on 7.8 functionality
demo transcript search in repository
demo search within transcript in Ramp. This can be tested on the Ramp demo site: https://ramp.avalonmediasystem.org/
currently powered by a Javascript client-side search of current transcript
working to hook this up to IIIF content search to search across all transcripts for a file
Any other questions about upgrade process?
Demo LTI integration with course management system @ IU
LTI integration version 1.3
Avalon added t Canvas as an external tool
Instructors can choose it from a long list of external tools to add in left nav as a tool for their course
When a user clicks on ‘IU Media Collections Online’ in Canvas, they are passed through to Avalon show a set of items authorized for that course
To add an item to a course in Avalon, go to Edit → Access Control → Assign special access and add the Canvas Course ID as an External Group. Can use Begin Date and End Date for a semester.
Faculty fill out a form to request that Library staff add items to the course in Avalon.
This is not custom to IU, but is available to all institutions with configuration.
LTI configuration documentation (Samvera Confluence)
Limitations
more automated way to remove access after a period of time (must be done manually by staff now)
some faculty interest in using tools like Timeliner with materials enabled through LTI access.
Other use cases
UMD interested in this for electronic course reserves. Their course reserve system is disliked; they are hoping to stand up an instance of Avalon instead.
Items from other institutions
Future agenda items?
Potential conversation around upgrade process for institutions that have been using Avalon for awhile (how to handle code customizations, etc.)
Bulk metadata editing discussion - what are the needs for this in Avalon? Are there tools in the community that could be re-used to help?
Summary of survey responses
