Getting to Northwestern library for September 2011 partner meeting

Northwestern's main campus is in Evanston, IL, the suburb immediately north of Chicago. There are campus maps and airport transport information on the Northwestern site.

Hydra meetings will be held in the Northwestern University Library, 1970 Campus Drive, Evanston, IL. Claire's Google map shows how to get between downtown Evanston and the library.

How to get from O'Hare airport to the hotel or the library:

  • Cheapest option is to take the 250 Pace Bus from the O'Hare remote parking facility (take Airport Transport System from the terminals to remote parking/kiss-n-fly) to its terminus at the Davis St. CTA station in downtown Evanston. Fare is $1.75. Takes about 50 - 65 minutes to get from O'Hare to Evanston, then a 2-3 block walk to the Hilton Orrington. Note that the Pace bus only runs a few times per hour; check the site for a full schedule.
  • Taxi will cost about $40 and the drive will take between 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the time of day. Northwestern's airport transport information site has details about taxi companies that serve campus. Check with the company about whether the Northwestern rate can be applied for rides to campus.
  • Go Airport Express shuttle serves campus, see the Northwestern airport transport information site for more information. Hydra attendees can take advantage of the Northwestern rates for Go Airport Express and for ABC Limo if the ride is to a Northwestern address.
  • It's possible, though not recommended, to take the 'El' (CTA train), but this will require a trip on the Blue Line to downtown Chicago, and then either transfer at Jackson to the Red line north to Howard, or to Purple line at Clark/Lake (RUSH HOUR ONLY). At Howard, either change to a bus (the 201 bus is the most direct route to campus) or transfer to the Purple line train and get off at either Davis or Foster. Overall this trip could take two hours or more to complete.

Parking information

  • Northwestern will arrange to have parking permits for anyone who would like to drive to campus. If you want a permit, please email Stu Baker (stubaker at northwestern dot edu) no later than Tuesday, September 6. See links, above, to Northwestern maps or Claire's Google map for closest parking options.
  • Check with the Hilton Orrington or Homestead for up-to-date information about parking and fees from those hotels.
