Agenda Items

  1. Welcome

  2. Guest Speaker Torsten Reimer
    1. Synopsis of talk
British Library approached their need for a repository agnostic to what should be used but, after a pilot, went to beta and are now going to full service.  This is a multi-tenant installation with a number of cultural heritage partners.
Wants to talk about (1) the challenges and opportunities the work presented and (2) on their work with partners and the Arcadia grant to make Hyku more useful.
Lead into a wider discussion of the purpose of a repository, the risks inherent in system choice, how things are harder and harder to set up and maintain when outsourcing may look slicker and more exciting.  How orgs need to address their real needs around openness and transparency.  Look at the many pros and cons of in-house v. shared services.
Title and synopsis to RG by Monday noon (BST).

  10. Messing Discussion - appears to be some confusion on registration Kevin Kochanski
Existing wording:  Registration is required for all workshops, presentations and community building events.  To sign up use our Sched website or the Sched app on your mobile device (search conferences for 'Samvera').  Registration is free of charge and is achieved by creating an account for yourself and adding workshop(s), presentation(s) and/or community events to your personal schedule.  Once signed up, we’ll send you a link to the webinar registration form (sorry, yes, a second sign-up) which will provide you with a unique link to access the conference Zoom webinar; we plan to send out those links next week and then on a daily basis to people who register after that.

HGK to provide something clearer (tick)RG to post everywhere this information appears (tick) and use in future emails.

Proposed next message from HGK - RG tweaks in orange:

Connect 2020 On-line is free of charge but registration is required. To register:

  1. Create an account on the conference Sched website: https://sc2020.sched.com/
  2. Select the workshops, presentations, and/or community events you will attend and add them to your schedule. Some workshops have limited seats and are filling up fast!
  3. Beginning  During the week of October 12th, all Attendees registered in Sched will be emailed a Zoom webinar registration link. Follow this link to obtain your unique URL to join the conference.  The same URL will work throughout the conference program on Friday 10/23 and Monday - Thursday 10/26 - 10/29.  You may also receive specific connection information for any workshops or community events you've added to your schedule.

(a note from Heather - I'm happy to be added as a contact for questions to take some burden off the Committee! I can likely troubleshoot most things and if I can't, I can ping the channel. Could just add a line like: Questions? Email Heather Greer Klein, Samvera Community Manager, heather.klein@emory.edu)
Thanks, Heather. (tick)

11.  Notch8 Swag bags Kevin Kochanski
Notch8 are discussing this idea.  Request that if they print hex stickers of the conference logo they print a stock for Samvera too.

12.  Open discussion
Shop information needs adding to wiki.  RG to action. (tick)
ALL: Please, in these final days of preparation, if you think anything is wrong or is a potential problem, let RG and HGK know so that it can be fixed or nipped in the bud!

Workshops:  RG to contact workshop leaders next week and indicate that they can manage their own sessions and to use the facility to communicate their Zoom link to participants.  A screenshot might help them find the link on their Sched homepage - it is a bit subtle.

13.  Next meeting:
Friday 16th October, usual time slot
BM to send iCAL (tick)
