  • Matthew, Duke
  • Wendy, Georgia Tech
  • Ben, Penn State

Should we talk about format policy issues? Penn State has talked to Artefactual about FPR integration, but nothing to report in terms of development. Format issues also wrapped up in decisions about how to deal with images in repository.  There is a new google group, just started last week, dealing with the Format Policy Registry: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/format-policy-registry .  Anyone interested in how the FPR might be used in a Hydra or Fedora context is welcome to join or watch that group.

Not just disk image creation in forensic tools, but also fsic processing.

Fiwalk output – could we apply that to objects extracted from the image?

Are we extracting files from images, or providing access to the file system through the image itself?

Repo could be use to preserve image, but only provide access to open materials from within the image?

Managing object at a disk image level – and the objects itself? Maintaining those relationships

What is the role of a repository managing those relationships? Or is that relationship managed in some place like ArchivesSpace?

Should we work up a work model for disk images? Matthew would be interested in working on that. Getting general flow and relationships – use Fedora Community Data Model as a reference point.  See PCDM Examples for examples.

Could we use a sample disk image to work on collectively? We'll look at sample images and see.

Could collectively develop user stories for disk images as well (Ben and Matthew have attempted this in the wild).

Not sure disk image example breaks the FDCM, but we could explore it as a first case.

We're not really moving images into repository systems.

Possible user stories (based on discussion): backlogging a disk image; deleting a disk image after objects extracted; redacting a disk image or managing a redacted disk image; ingesting disk image with fiwalk, dfxml, premis metadata (BC).

Could we apply this to other needs? Research data, maybe, events/audit logging? Web archiving/social media?
