    • Goals for the meeting
    • Format for the meeting
    • Any feedback/comments/questions?
      • Farrell: struggle having locally is convincing developers that a change to their data model is necessary. Would be nice to have some language or consensus that they can bring back.
      • Nathan: would be good to talk about the PCDM – why it is, and why should people be using it.
        • Will also be good to share some readings in advance
      • Chela: safe space; help everyone engage on the same comfort level  – no expectations.
      • Wendy: what are the exercises?  BEN: proposed:
        • Talking about how the descriptive standards would/should relate to DPLA MAP
        • Reviewing PCDM/Archival diagram and documenting how objects in the model relate to one another (PCDM is structural but doesn’t say anything about how objects relate to one another)
        • Defining descriptive elements for each of the levels in the PCDM archives diagram and mapping to DACS
        • Define core set of classes to help inform future work — [must admit I don’t know what this looks like]
      • Wendy: how might projects that are exploring integration relate to the work of data modeling? I.e. OSS ArcFlow from Educopia
        • Farrell: grant is gestating a bit
        • Mike S: could be a lot of overlap between data modeling and workflow modeling.

Hydra Archivists Interest Group meeting at SAA

The Hydra Archivists Interest Group is composed of archivists working at institutions affiliated with Project Hydra and engaged in repository development using that community’s suite of tools. Archivists at these institutions meet regularly to discuss ways in which they can advance archival technology needs through better communication and understanding of software development activities. During this three hour working meeting, we will discuss data modeling -- what it is, why archivists should care -- and then start a conversation around developing a data model for archives. This meeting is co-sponsored by TS-DACS, and is open to anyone interested in the technical standards that inform archival description, including not just EAD, DACS, and EAC-CPF, but emerging standards like the Portland Common Data Model and the work of ICA’s Expert Group on Archival Description. We welcome all who are interested, but our room size is limited to 60. We also respectfully seek attendees who are prepared to participate, since a significant portion of this meeting will be composed of break-out discussions and activities.
