Retros Dev Congress September 6th - 16th, 2022

DATE Samvera Connect Dev Congress

Plus

  • +++ Lynette shepherding cycle. Always tickets to work and following up.

  • + Documentation - plentiful and well-maintained, and got work on it done in this sprint.

  • ++ Great team!
  • Significant improvements to the code base since I last looked at it.
  • First time in this code base. It was pretty well organized. I felt comfortable finding things.
  • Week before we started getting the environment set up and design patterns we were going to see.
  • Able to commit a full two weeks (plus extra setup time before).
  • Docker environment was weird for us, but our whole team got it going and running consistently without major issues.
  • Running Hyrax and nurax-pg off the same code made it easier to flip back and forth and make sure we weren't breaking things
  • Removing deprecated patterns of the separation of AF and valkyrie code
  • We're going to cut a 3.x release

Delta

  • Wished we could have finished it.
  • Wished we could have had more QA support to see what's next and what's not working.
  • Wish there weren't any flaky tests
  • Really long (2 hr) test suite.
  • splitting time with local work was hard
  • timing over peoples' spring breaks meant we lost some folks
  • I don't feel fully confident in the test suite. Unstubbing things sometimes revealed broken code.
  • In person dev congress is more of a bonding experience and builds our community more
  • A more immersive / in person experience also leads to deeper learning of the software
  • Got stuck in a deprecated class without realizing it
