Community Notes

Agenda:

Notes:

  • Hyrax Maintenance Working Group update - tamsin johnson and Julie Hardesty

    • In second cycle for the year - still low on developers (Daniel Pierce from IU and tamsin).

    • tamsin stepping down as tech lead at end of Sept.

    • Hyrax 3.1.0 release

      • Released at end of last week

      • Valkryie work included

      • Documentation improved

      • Deployment improved with helm chart and docker container

      • Also 2.x update release that happened at same time - updating ActiveFedora support to 12.2

  • Topics and Projects

    • Hyrax Tech Lead update

      • Maintenance working group is continuing - tech lead description is done but haven't sent out to the community yet. This position will be empty and will be reduced in what the capacity can be - much slower pace at this point. Julie wants to focus more into documentation, to get it cleaned up and in better shape for the time being. Not clear when we will be ready to seek another tech lead.

      • Thought is to step back and think about how to take a new approach to pledge drive, maintenance, and tech lead. Want to define folks who are area experts, who could potentially review pull requests and reduce the pressure on hyrax tech lead. Discussion of changing this role to make it more sustainable and less focused on one person.

      • Heather is exploring area interest experts who can review PRs - just started talking about this so more next time

      • Not getting the IMLS grant has made things more difficult

      • Need to keep in mind that functional area experts might complicate or confuse things for PR review and approval - don’t want this to get in the way but want this to help facilitate

    • 2022 Samvera Technology Maintenance Hours Pledge Drive

      • Work on getting multiple people/institutions

      • One institution has officially pledged hours that put the drive to 10% of goal

      • Heather is updating the page as she gets definitive pledges

    • Moving Valkyrie work forward (Hyrax on Wings)

      • Functional things in place, but getting the connectors in place in all of the spots in the Hyrax code hasn’t happened yet

      • Trying to get a demo site up using a backend that isn’t Fedora, running on postgresql

      • Project board on github for Valkyrie with known issues to fix

      • Having discussions with DCE to support a nurax site with Postgres as the backend for testing purposes in addition to Nurax-dev; they are reviewing what is possible

    • Hyku news

      • Plans to move things from ubiquity repo to Hyku repo

      • Working on extracting settings work from ubiquity into hyku

      • Syncing Hyku env vars with Hyrax env vars to make this work better

      • Releasing that, shared search, and something else as Hyku 4 in the next month-ish

  • Questions?

  • Next meeting: Wednesday, October 13, 11:30am Eastern (Day 2 of Samvera Partners meeting)
