Hello Samvera technologists,

This year we will be holding an online Developer Congress. In years past Developer Congresses often followed immediately after a Samvera Connect. However, this year, we’re doing things differently.

The 2020 Samvera Developer Congress will be held November 16-18 via online channels.

What is a Developer Congress? This is a time when developers in the Samvera community come together and focus on some interesting and/or necessary work. It is also a time for us to share knowledge and mentor each other. At a Developer Congress topics are freely proposed by participants and groups form around them during the Congress to move them forward.

At previous Congresses, developers have worked on community projects such as Browse Everything, Hyrax / Wings, and expanding collection functionality in Hyrax. Groups have also collaborated on React components and design discussions.

The Developer Congress is powered by our ideas, so please start thinking about what you want to work on and enter your topic on the Topic List wiki page.

Who is it for? Anyone who writes code or software documentation.

What will you need? You’ll want to have a mostly clear calendar for the working hours of November 16-18. You’ll need a computer, an internet connection, and a free Slack account for the Samvera workspace. Most groups will be video conferencing and screen sharing; some options for facilitating collaboration are listed on the Co-development Technologies wiki page. To commit code into a Samvera repository you’ll need a Contributor License Agreement (CLA) on file.

We look forward to seeing you at the Samvera Developer Congress!

Sincerely,
Anna Headley (Chair), Adam Arling, Jeremy Friesen, Lynette Rayle, Trey Pendragon, and Kait Sewell
