Agenda:
Samvera Updates
In a community sprint this week. Working on documentation and code work
Avalon new release will be announced shortly
Samvera virtual connect and open repositories were recorded and are uploaded now. Lots of Samvera representation in the presentation
Nested metadata work seems to be happening with Notch8 - dubbed “compound metadata” by LaRita - will try to come back to this in a future meeting, hopefully with LaRita present
Recoding about is: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1na7Nh5WtsqPNtNtRSPVUyzkkA2TTR0fJ/view
“We're looking at bringing compound metadata into Hyrax first and then into a Hyku 7.3 release”
Work is going on at Westminster - “practice research” - research were the traditional research output is not a paper, but more in line with research arts. Videos, photos, recordings
https://neurology.wustl.edu/dancing-to-ease-disease-tango-with-a-beneficial-beat/
Has the ability to work with strings and controlled vocabulary
Ability to create a database from creator
Guided csv import will likely not need to be updated massively
Alt-text in Hyku
University of Louisville - has done some adapting with the code to add it to all the records. The tag reads “resource type, source id, see description for more detail”
Trying to have a unique identifier, but not overwhelming the reader
We do have compound objects/parent child records so the idea was to get this at the file set record not at the individual image level
Would be nice if it was a little more automated in Hyku or Bulkrax
OSU has comic strips - have not found a good way to automate that work
Some people using AI claude sonnet to build the alt-text
How are various places approaching alt-text vs description? What happens when an image contains text?
Hyrax alt-text ticket: https://github.com/samvera/hyrax/issues/7236
OSU has an accessibility person who has been helping to guide the work
Hyku alt-text
tip for finding more Hyku alt-text features - look for ones created by LaRita as she did most of the work :)
A spot to collaborate on alt-text definitions - New Features and Needs - Proposed, In-Progress, Released
Public documentation can be risky because you’re showing your cards
Open Discussion
Will send out a poll to see if this is still a good time for everyone
Next month agenda: language tags and language support, Nick would like to request some feedback on another project
