HydraConnect 2016 Hydra Archivists Meeting

Use cases

Erin began by noting that attendance exemplified the disconnect between the monthly calls (mostly attended by archivists) and the in-person meetings (mostly attended by developers). Previously the group had worked on ASpace integration and disk image use cases (https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/hydra/ArchivesSpace+Integration+Use+Cases, https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/hydra/Disk+Images ) and a good project for the coming year might be an Archives 101 session for developers. It was suggested that the previously compiled use cases could be added to and the top three priorities identified for development.

Potential collaboration/merger between HAIG and Digital Preservation Interest Group

Chris Awre discussed the potential for collaboration between the Digital Preservation Group and the Archivists Group. An upcoming working group for a survey about digital preservation would benefit from members from several groups, including Archivists and Metadata, to look at what technology people are using for digital preservation and where Hydra fits into that. Someone suggested this group also look at the recent ArcLight survey. This survey would help identify what actions or events to focus on in a Hydra context. The group could also look at the relationship between PCDM and preservation, and how to exploit PREMIS or something else like PROV-O.

ArcLight

There was some discussion of archival discovery tools, including Primo and ArcLight, and the need to identify available technologies and integrations between systems. Archival processing, preservation, and access are still developing separately in some cases and remain siloed. The work being done at Bentley, York, and Hull, was discussed, as was the need to be able to replicate similar functionality at places with few or no developers.

Archives 101

The Archives 101 session, to give developers greater awareness of what archival work entails, could potentially be held at VirtualConnect or as a stand-alone webinar.
