We in Hull have set up a three-tier system:
The development server is a single Red Hat VM hosting Ruby, Fedora and Solr with an external link to the University's SQL cluster. Ā It relies on internal storage.
The test (staging) and production servers are, in fact, triples: two Windows 2008 R2 VMs (one each for Fedora and Solr) and a Red Hat VM for Ruby. Ā Again there is an external link for SQL. Ā The Fedora and Solr servers are mapped into the University's SAN which provides file storage.
