The Samvera Board

The Board process is outlined in the Samvera Foundation Bylaws.

What is the Commitment for Board Members?

Members generally dedicate a 1-2 hours a week to Samvera leadership work, with additional time needed from members who hold the Board Chair, Vice Chair, and Treasurer roles.

Board members have a 90 minute call once per month, and with occasional ad hoc calls. The Board generally meets face-to-face two times per year, the Connect meeting in October and the in person Partner meeting in March, but there is always an option to join these meetings virtually.

What Does the Samvera Board Do?

The Board of Directors provides stewardship and central administration of the Community. Duties include:

  • Working with the fiscal sponsor to set the annual budget

  • Approving new Community structures

  • Determining when decisions must be brought to the Partners for a vote

  • Outreach to potential Partners

  • Handling sensitive issues

  • Stewardship and caretaking of the Community as a whole, in partnership with the Community Manager

  • providing continuity of the Community

  • Delegating work to the Community Manager

Like any other Partners, members of the Board also participate in Community activities including contributing to Working and Interest Groups, attending meetings, giving presentations etc.
