2.3.1 Content Submission Guides
Hyku currently has four work types available. Each of these types have slightly different content submission guidelines. The following submission guides are for adding new works one-by-one. For bulk import see 2.2.2 Bulk Import/Export
Generic Work
Hyku’s original model for any piece of content or “work”. Appropriate for any file type. Includes generic, broadly applicable descriptors and provides a menu of common Resource Type values which can be applied to characterize the nature of the content.
Add a Generic Work
Go to Dashboard
Under “Repository Contents” on the left-hand navigation bar select “Works”
On the Works page click on the “Add New Work” button
When the “Select Type of Work” pop-up appears
Select “Generic Work” radio button; and then
Click on the “Create Work” work button.
On the “Add New Generic Work” page fill out all of the following:
Add Descriptions:
Under the “Descriptions” tab fill out all required fields. See the 2.3.2 Metadata Entry Guidelines page for further guidance on metadata.
To add more metadata beyond the required fields, click on the “Additional fields” button.
Add Files: To add files, select the “Files” tab and select from the following upload options:
Add files button

Public: Make available to all.
Institution: Restrict access to users at the institution.

Image
The first distinct work type developed in Hyku. Similar to the Generic Work, with additional, optional descriptors particularly relevant to works featuring image-based content, such as photographs or illustrations, as distinct from text-based content, time-based media, dataset, etc.
Add an image-based work (single or multiple image files)
Follow the same steps above as a Generic Work 2.3.1 Content Submission Guides but select “Image” in the “Select a Work Type” (see step 4).
When it comes time to upload image files (see Step 5.b above), refer to the File Format Recommendations guide to ensure images are rendering properly 2.3.3 File Format Recommendations.
Electronic Thesis/Dissertation (ETD)
The ETD work type offers a specialized template for theses and dissertations, adding required degree-specific and optional academic committee fields, supporting a narrower set of formats, and allowing related works for associated scholarly objects.
Add an ETD work
Follow the same steps above as a Generic Work 2.3.1 Content Submission Guides but select “ETD” in the “Select a Work Type” (see Step 4).
One notable difference is that ETD Work Types have their own set of additional descriptive metadata to fill out, which is explained in 2.3.2 Metadata Entry Guidelines
Open Educational Resource (OER)
The OER work type is designed for the discoverability and reuse of teaching/learning materials. It pairs common file formats with a controlled vocabulary for learning resource type, richer versioning relationships, and metadata elements for discipline, education-level, and accessibility.
Add an OER work
Follow the same steps above as a Generic Work 2.3.1 Content Submission Guides but select “OER” in the “Select a Work Type” (see Step 4).
One notable difference is that OER Work Types have their own set of additional descriptive metadata to fill out, which is explained in 2.3.2 Metadata Entry Guidelines.
