Avalon 7.7 development updates
- Still working on change to integrate Ramp media player into Avalon
- Modeling playlists as IIIF manifests
- Solr 9 compatible (hopefully)
- adding in a repeatable series field that can act somewhat like a sub-collection to gather items in a series or topic; will become a facet and be linked from the metadata on the item page
Samvera community and Active Fedora
- Currently a first release candidate for Hyrax with Valkyrie and Postgres
- Samvera community is working to organize a group around Hyrax with Fedora 6
- Will be testing Avalon with Active Fedora and Fedora 6 in October 2023 and experiment with performance gains in that setup
- May consider moving Avalon to Valkyrie in lieu of Active Fedora based on this testing and support for Active Fedora in the larger Samvera community
Avalon updates from other institutions
- NEC added storage for their instance so now can do transcoding on 2-3 videos at a time, instead of 1 (based on sizing info provided by IU)
