About the Program

After a year of active development, Hyku, the Hyrax-based repository application developed in the Hydra-in-a-Box project, is ready for beta testing! We are soliciting the Hydra community’s assistance to improve Hyku and to help define and prioritize our work for the remainder of the time on the IMLS grant supporting this project. The Beta testing program is an open opportunity to deploy the Hyku repository locally or in the cloud, to “kick the tires”, and to give the Hydra-in-a-Box team feedback on Hyku & its deployment options. We sought to develop a Hydra-based repository that is easy to install, easy to maintain, and easy to configure; your feedback is crucial for helping us gauge how much progress we’ve made on these goals.

Program Details & Timeline

The Beta program is slated to run from Monday, May 15 through Friday, June 23, 2017.

Here’s what is required of participants:

  • Register your interest in participating in the Beta program (use this here wiki page);
  • Install Hyku (via one of three methods as detailed on our wiki page here);
  • Use the Hyku application (link to UI workflows document here?); and
  • Submit bugs and overall feedback (specify how to submit those here).

Who can participate?

The Beta Program is open to anyone who is interested in testing the deployment of the Hyku application and its functionality as a digital repository. You do not need to be an active Hydra developer or user to get involved and provide feedback. Organizations experienced with Hydra applications are also strongly encouraged to participate, too.

Why participate?

We can think of at least four reasons to participate in the Beta Program:

  • It's fun to try out stuff for the first time

  • It's fun to be among the first users of a product

  • You can help steer the direction of the product, because your feedback will be considered future updates to the product

  • It's a community good: you can help make the product better for us all!
