The Samvera Steering Group announces a Special Election for one seat on the group, set to begin October 15.

In summer 2018, Samvera saw the unanticipated departure of Debra Hanken-Kurtz from Steering, creating a vacancy within the Steering Group.

At this time, Steering is opening nominations to fill this seat.

Term

The elected party will serve for a term to include both the remainder of the coming year, and an automatic roll-over to a three year term following, starting August 1, 2019, for a total of just under four years.  This seat is eligible for re-election for a subsequent three year term, should the seat-holder choose to run again in 2022.

Samvera Steering provides a unique opportunity for community leadership and to provide direction to a key effort in the future of memory institutions.

Responsibilities of Steering

Current work includes:

  • Overseeing the implementation of the Recommendations provided by the Governance Working Group

  • Establishing a Roadmap Council

  • Hiring of Centralized Staff

  • Reviewing the Samvera Community and Steering bylaws

  • Working to implement a Contributions model in support of the resources requested in Recommendations

  • Assessing Governance by end of 2019

  • Managing future elections

Those considering running for Steering should review and have the support of their institution for fiscal and time commitments related to the role.  Details of the responsibilities of Steering can be found on the Samvera Wiki.

Requirements for Nomination:

  • Nominees must be employed with a Samvera Partner Institution in good standing.

  • Nominees must provide a State of Purpose describing:

    • Relevant Experience

    • Reason they wish to serve on Steering

  • Nominees attending the Samvera Partners Meeting in Salt Lake City on October 8th, 2018 will be given an opportunity to briefly introduce themselves

  • Institutions may not have more than one representative per institution. No candidate may be from an institution already represented on Steering. If more than one candidate is nominated from an institution, the Election Committee will contact the nominees. The nominees will then need to decide which candidate will run.
