Julie Allinson
CoSector, University of London
Lead Developer

Statement of Purpose:  I have been working with the Samvera technologies, and been a part of the community, since 2014, first at the University of York (UK) and now with CoSector at the University of London.

I bring experience of being a new institutional member of the community, and have direct experience of the kinds of issues smaller institutions face in adopting Samvera.  I also now have experience of being a service provider, of understanding what users want from their repository and in tailoring a Samvera-based application to their needs. I have endeavoured to be an active contributor to Samvera, contributing code to various gems and time to working groups and meetings.

I feel that it is a critical time for Samvera, the community is growing and the codebase is changing. There are challenges ahead for us in striking a balance between continuing to innovate, whilst supporting institutions who have smaller amounts of time and resource, and older codebases. I believe the community, at its core, is incredibly healthy, it is wonderful at coming together to improve and evolve both the software and the community, and it is not afraid to openly tackle challenging questions. I genuinely value being a part of it and I have learnt so much from others.

I want to join Samvera Steering for a number of reasons. For myself, I want a chance to engage with more of the Samvera stakeholders and learn more about how the community works. I also want the opportunity to have a voice in the community, to represent smaller institutions, European partners, and service providers. For Steering, I’ll bring energy and commitment, new ideas and a voice from over the pond.
