  1. be nominated by an existing partner
  2. get invited to join by the Steering Group 
  3. submit a brief letter of intent (see below) and a one page letter of agreement (see below)
  4. be voted in by the Steering Group, and
  5. be welcomed formally to the project as a provisional partner (see below)
  6. following a significant contribution (see below) to the project, become a full partner

Please note that this procedure is currently being revised in an effort to simplify it somewhat and, in particular, to remove the notion of "provisional partner".

How do you stop being a Samvera partner?

Partners sign a formal one page agreement agreeing to support the formal, legal Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Steering Group in April 2012, and each Partner is asked at the time of joining the group to write a brief letter of intent indicating why they want to become a Samvera Partner and what they intend to contribute to the project. (Note that we post these letters publicly in the wiki, to share among the community.)  Hydra Partner Letter of Agreement and MOU 2014.pdf Samvera Community Framework  Partners are also strongly encouraged to file a Contributor License Agreements to ensure that the project can accept code and other intellectual contributions from the partner institution.
