Controlled Digital Lending (CDL) is a method strategy for restricting access to digital material , which most often aligns with the count of a physical object containing the recording in an institution’s collections.Only authenticated based on corresponding physical copies held by an institution.
When CDL is enabled for an Avalon collection, each item can only be viewed after a user borrows the item, and an individual item can only be borrowed and streamed by a single user at a time. Only authenticated (logged-in) users are able to borrow items.

To enable CDL in Avalon, update your system configuration filethe configuration file for your Avalon installation. The CDL panel on the collection administration page below will not appear until CDL is enabled in the application-wide settings.
Enabling CDL for Collections
To enable CDL for a collection, check the “Enable controlled digital lending for this collection” box on a collection’s administration page and select the corresponding Save button:

Borrowing an Item

When an item is available, a button will appear in the media player. Selecting this button will check out the item to the current user
Unavailable Items

When an item is currently checked out, an info message will display to non-borrowing users that includes the time and date of return
Viewing a Borrowed Item

The time remaining for the current borrowing period is display next to the media player
Selecting the “Return now” button returns this item
When there is no time remaining left on a checkout, the system will automatically return the item
