Agenda & Notes

  1. Any other items for the agenda?

    1. Review DRAFT - Github Processes and Permissions Working Group Charter

  1. Hyrax Tech Leadership for 2025; mentorship opportunity for a 2026 Tech Lead

    1. Indiana University has offered 25% of Daniel’s time and 40% of Randall’s time for Hyrax activities in 2025 only

    2. Looking for a volunteer leader to work with them for 20% time, for mentorship and skill building to take on the role at 30% time in 2026

    3. Opportunity to adjust this role in future, in coordination with the activities of the Hyku leadership grant-funded role

It is an ideal time to bring on a person with a strong team to learn from. Looking to get someone in place. It would be guaranteed support for training. The code will be simplified over the course of the year. It would be a good place for someone to step into this role in 2026.

While many depend on Hyrax, IU can’t continue providing support at this level. Think broadly about who has the potential to do this. The current IU team of folks are great and supportive teachers, and we want to see this skill set grow.

  1. Hyku Leadership Sustainability grant activity update

    1. Call for expressions of interest

    2. Role descriptions
Not a tech lead at this point; Rob is currently continuing as a Tech Lead. But the community developer and product owner will offload some of the work from Rob. The group has already talked to a few people interested in the roles, which are flexible. We still welcome feedback on the roles.

  2. Github Processes and Permissions Working Group Charter review
Asking for feedback on the charter. If this is supported, there will be a call for participation in the new year. Several members have already volunteered.

    1. Colmex - FYI, they work on two-week sprints to work on tickets in GitHub, so we need to coordinate when this activity happens as part of the working group discussion.

  3. Community Meeting - any feedback?

    1. View recordings from the Samvera Community Meeting: Technology Updates, Repository Spotlights

    2. These will be highlighted throughout January in the Samvera Blog and the new Samvera LinkedIn page - feel free to follow

Over 50 people attended. The outputs of the meeting will continue to be used to widen the audience. It was a great cross-section of the various technologies in Samvera. The Georgetown presentation will be helpful in guiding others in implementation.

  1. Other Updates:

    1. If you’re submitting to present at OR2025 please let Heather know - The deadline for submissions has been extended to January 13, 2025.

    2. Spring 2025 Partner meeting at Northwestern - looking at afternoon of Tuesday, March 25th and morning of Wednesday, March 26th

      1. Now looking at 19/20 bc of other conflicts for rooms at Northwestern. IU’s spring break is the week of the 17th. Code4Lib is 10-14.

      2. We could meet in conjunction with Code4Lib, do a half-day on March 12th Wednesday afternoon (ends at 1:15 that day), and have a hybrid meeting. It could be an incentive for in-person attendance. Maybe other people who attend Code4Lib could represent at the partners meeting. But people won’t have eaten, limiting our ability to meet.

      3. David will work with others to talk through this further. David will put a hold on meeting rooms for now.

      4. A Samvera meeting is also scheduled in June in conjunction with IIIF in Leeds.

    3. Don’t forget to vote in the Board election - ballots were sent to primary contacts. Deadline is the 18th.

    4. Reminder: new Partner meeting day and time for 2025 - 2nd Thursday at 12pm ET/9am PT/5pm GMT - Add the 2025 monthly Partner call to your calendar

    5. Sign up to present or facilitate a topic (5 - 30 minutes) at a 2025 Partner call - see list of ideas on the page

      1. Heather will solicit ideas, but also possible to sign up yourself:
Sign up to facilitate a discussion or present a demo at a 2025 Partner call

    6. Reminder of the Fedora community discussion on AI and AI harvesting issues crossing all repository spaces.

Anything for the Samvera Board? (Standing item)

Date of next call: January 9th, 2025 (new date and time for 2025)
